The verbage is a bit "hippy dippy" for me, but if you can look past that detail...This is a very uplifting and nourishing read. Reads like a love letter from a long lost sister. Points out how centuries of patriarchal, linear, and "god"-fearing systems have stripped sacredness, freedom, and truth from the lives of countless women and others.The author is gentle and insightful, helping the reader come to terms with a long terror- and oppression-filled history, how those events have manifested in our current psyche, and raising up in hope and adulation for a new era of sacred sisterhood. She gives concrete steps to reclaiming and aligning yourself and your sacred energy, like "worship the seasons" and "connect with nature". Things that seem obvious once your read them, but are so hidden and scared by the systems we live in that you'd never have thought of it yourself. A freeing, humbling, and encouraging read for all. It's taken me almost a year to finish this book because I restarted twice. I kept putting it down and life got in the way. Luckily this is one that you can pick up from wherever you stopped so you don't HAVE to restart if you don't want to.
I don't know how to shortly describe why I loved this book.
I guess it speaks to me as a spiritual woman but I feel that if you weren't into spirituality, it is still a great read if you want to connect to your intuition and inner, awesome female.
We spend so much time disconnected from ourselves and this book is just a nice stepping stone to get back that self-fire. That's what I loved the most.
The book is filled with inspiration, motivation, beautiful affirmations, quotes, and prayers.
As with "Light is the New Black", most of the chapters end with questions to ask and answer yourself. They're simple questions but not ones we ask ourselves generally.
I'd recommend this book for any woman who feels a little out of touch, especially with themselves and is looking to reconnect spiritually.
I have always been interested in books on spirituality, that didn’t drone on about Christianity. This is the first book by Rebecca that I’ve read (I’m just now starting “Light is the New Black”)—so I’m doing things a little backwards. This is a book that had me looking inwards more with the insightful questions that were spaced throughout the book. As I was reading, I could feel thoughts shifting and falling away. I am at a crossroads right now, and this book reminded me that I should take things slow, because if what I jump for isn’t meant for me, it too will soon fall away and I’ll just find myself back at the crossroads (or a similar location). It is time to let our selves heal, and find our way back to our natural internal rhyme of life.
This book goes deep...it would take me a long time to write a review that would give it justice, so I'll just say it inspired me to journal as I slowly savored it, I learned so much about myself, and my life is changed because of it. If you want spiritual growth and strength despite all odds, get it. I'm much stronger, understanding of a higher power, forgiving, capable, patient, loving, motivated, and ready for the now as well as the future. I'm going to get her other book and work through it as well.
This book spoke right to me! It's not a "down with patriarchs ... up with matriarchs" kind of reading. If you are looking for that, you won't find it here. Instead, Rebecca shows how a balance between both patriarchs and matriarchs is the best of both worlds and what is needed in today's world. Women do have a little bit more of a path to travel to perhaps get to the "balance" of the two ... this book can definitely help you get there! I think I high-lighted 80% of the book ... and I sent it to all my "sisters" to buy. Thanks, Rebecca, for putting in words what so many women are afraid to say .. or think ... you make it seem as though it should have always been there!
Do yourself a favor and read this book. This book hits the awakening of sisterhood and the rise of the feminine in a way that doesn't feel to hippie woo-woo for newbies. This book is approachable if you are new to the idea of sisterhood and feminine energy but also feels like a welcome home for those who have been walking the walk for years. Rebecca Campbell writes in a way that is authentic and genuine and you can feel her light through this book calling to help other men and women across the globe. Beautifully done. It's realistic and heartfelt and a wonderful way to start a journey or a reminder to find your strength and light and keep working it.
I want to start off this review saying that I am a huge fan of Rebecca Campbell. I enjoy hearing her speak and she is a beautiful spirit. I was hoping this book was going to be more than it is. I can see why she wrote it in the same style as the first book. It is beautiful and has a flow that is the same. But, it's just not that deep in regard to "unleashing the wise woman within." I feel bad that I can't give it a glowing review. It's not a bad book, per se, but I am disappointed that I purchased it. I love Rebecca and I will continue to support her and cheer for her success, but I can't see myself ever re-reading this book for juicy nuggets of wisdom.
I think there is always the right time to read a book. I purchased this book early last year and never touched it until 2 weeks ago. Now I can't put it down. This book has really changed me. I am definitely way more empowered and loving who I really am. I would highly recommend this book but I would also comment that you have to really truly be ready for change and be open. If you start to read the book and you can feel that it's not gripping and opening your mind, then put it down and try again at another time. It is so worth it when the time is right.
